Design for a New Landscape; Condo. Patio Garden

For this project, we created the design and installed the landscape. The homeowners requested a Japanese style garden with a generous seating area in this Santa Fe location.  They were concerned about drainage as the adjoining lots slope toward the terraced back yard.  We solved this issue by excavating below the new flagstone patio location and adding 18" of drain rock and gravel.  The patio is permeable as it is laid on a 3" bed of pathway fines maximizing the drainage potential.

                            Before                                                                After

The back yard is bare and cave like; the terraces looming above.  Drainage is a problem with no where for the upslope water to go.  The clients want a larger patio. A Japanese garden theme is preferred.

The existing aspens were included in    the new design. The patio was  extended,  creating larger area for table and chairs - and below the patio, a hidden drainage solution to handle the runoff problem.

The side yard was equally bare and uninviting;  the patio and yard gate lack unity.

A meandering path of stepping stones was added to connect the side yard to the newly extended flagstone patio.  A thick layer of mulch softens the ground and prevents erosion.
